The most popular External Blinds nowadays are Lock Arm awnings. These had been brought some 40 years ago to Australia and commonly known as “Storm Blinds”. They provide protection from the sun by allowing light to pass through but keeping the ultraviolet rays out on any wall opening in any structure.
Made in a maximum width of up to 3950mm, these awnings are installed on the outside wall surface to cover any window or opening, usually fitted 150mm over each side of the reveal, and secured to a brick or a wooden substrate (never in between mortar). They can also be installed between columns or posts—for example, a gazebo or front porch. If placed under an eave, a hood is seldom installed as the overhang will protect the awning.
